12/1/2017 • St. Louis, Missouri • City Garden Montessori School, a Montessori charter school in St. Louis, has had its charter renewed by the Missouri state school board for ten years, according to a story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Missouri charter schools are typically renewed for five years, but City Garden qualified for the ten-year term as a “high-quality” school based on “annual performance report score of 85 percent or more for three of the past four years.”

Racial and socioeconomic diversity is a key part of the school’s mission, and it remains one of the most integrated schools in St. Louis. About half of its students are non-white and about 42 percent qualify for free or reduced-price lunches, a measure of poverty. Most students in St. Louis Public Schools, by contrast, qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and 81 percent are black.
