Newly converted public Montessori school in IN attracts interest

Steuben County, IN
Pleasant Lake Montessori, a small rural elementary school in Steuben County, opened its doors in August becoming one of the few free, public Montessori schools in northeast Indiana, per KPCNews. The school, which serves K-6 students, was converted from Pleasant Lake Elementary following a decision by the Metropolitan School District (MSD) School Board earlier this year.
The school shares its historic 109-year-old, three-story building with the Academic and Career Education (ACE) Academy on the third floor, a move designed to increase enrollment and ensure the building’s continued use.
The Montessori program has attracted significant interest from local families with both kindergarten and lower elementary classes now having waitlists. “We have experienced an outpouring of support from the community and lots of interest from families seeking this type of learning experience for their children,” said Principal Sarah Clary.
MSD officials hope the Montessori program will revitalize the school and attract more students in the coming years.
