First Full Public Montessori School Gets Own Building in Texas District

Dallas-Fort Worth, TX
A school district near Dallas-Fort Worth in Texas is getting its first full public Montessori school, according to an article in the Fort Worth Report. Crowley Independent School District (ISD), a mid-sized district of 17,000 students on the edge of Fort Worth has moved a school-within-a-school Montessori program to its own building, the new Crowley Montessori Academy.
Families who applied for their children to attend Crowley Montessori said they were looking forward to a learning environment that fosters student agency and essential social skills.
“Montessori students learn in collaborative environments, and it’s an opportunity for them to excel beyond what happens in a traditional classroom,” Crowley ISD board President Daryl Davis said. “It’s a beautiful program and I think our students are going to thrive as a result.”
The new school, a $33.3 million project, is expected to help boost educational standards within the district. Neighboring district Fort Worth ISD has had its own public Montessori program at Daggett Montessori School since 1983.
