12/12/16 • Tulsa, Oklahoma • Oklahoma’s first public Montessori school is slated to open in Tulsa Public Schools’ Emerson Elementary School, beginning in the fall of 2018, according to an article in the Tulsa World. The district has been working with the National Center for Montessori in the Public Sector since February.
The article has some nice things to say about Montessori education:
Montessori schools promote student independence with individualized instruction plans and student-led projects that encourage children to learn at their own pace. They use multi-age classrooms and outdoor learning environments and emphasize social development by encouraging students to help one another learn and treat each other with compassion, empathy and tolerance.
